My husband is really talented in IT... he left his job (and moved 700 miles) to marry me two years ago.. and he hasn't found another job. He has been very supportive of me and my career and I know that it has been harder for him than he admits to ... to have left his family, friends and job. It's hard to not be employed!!
I wanna help... but how do you find a computer programmin job??? He's already tried all the on-line job search engines and newspapers.
(my last question made me realize this more)

Even though he has a degree, when you need to work you will do anything you need to do to bring home a paycheck. Get him out there working doing anything, and he will start meeting people he can network. He needs to do this for him self, or people will think he is lazy and think that he needs you to find him work because he won't do it himself. (even if that is not the case) But tell him to find a job just in another field for now so he can meet people who can introduce him to others who may have opportunity for him. Best of Wishes to you and your husband.

He needs to continue searching the newspapers and online job sites. He might also be able to go to the local Divison of Employment Resources (a.k.a. 'unemployment') and check the listings there as not all firms advertise jobs they have available due to the amount of applicants who would respond.

In the meantime, he should get any other type of employment that he could do to help support the family until a job he's more suited to/qualified for comes along.

If he is really that good in IT, he should be able to find a job. IT is one of the hottest and fastest growing jobs. If I were sitting at the computer with him, I could find him a job. It sounds like he isnt trying or isnt looking in the right places. How well did you know him before you married him? You said he lived 700 miles away.

My son has his masters degree and it took him 8 months to find a good paying job. He submitted his resume to hundreds of employers online and did not get one bite. Then he went to several employment agencies and went on quite a few interviews. Employers wanted to hire him and he had several companies to choose from before he took his current position. He is in the Southern California area and was looking all over the country but happily for him his position is only a few miles from his current residence.

I'll be perfectly honest with you. I don't think he's trying all that hard!! I'll tell you why......my step-daughter has recently become a pedicatric oncologist. She did her residency in Chicago, met her boyfriend (husband now) and he had a job there in the computer business. She did a fellowship in Philadelphia. He moved there with her and found a job right away. Now....she got a job in Florida. He moved with her and found a job in one week. It goes to show, that If you look hard enough, you'll find one!!!

try the unemployment office, and you can try your state's website. if he was in college or knew a college student, he could have found jobs on the bulletin boards because jobs are always posted on campus. could he work with you in a different department. sometimes you have to take any job and make sacrifices until something better shows up.

Hard question...here goes,
perhaps it time for you to relocate where he may have a chance of employment...and you can still work at the same place...you cannot invent a job for him but you can maybe get him in a better place to look

well maybe then he needs to find a job in another specialty... if they don't have that kind of job then he needs to at least look for another kind of job and not be home anymore...
