It would have to be Zidane. After a fantastic Euro 2000, where he was the player of the tournament, there can be no question that he is the most inspirational player of his generation. Of the others, Figo is brilliant on his day but inconsistent and Rivaldo does not play well enough for Brazil despite being frequently awesome foe Barcelona. Other candidates would be Nesta of Italy who is undoubtedly the best defender in the world and Juan Sebestian Veron who has been brilliant for Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers. As for David Beckham, well if he could produce his Man United form for England then I really think he could be up there with Zidane. But so far he has not really controlled and dictated a game for England which is what Zidane does time and again.

who is the best footballer? you have to make that clearer, the best footballer of all time? well no one can really answer that cos the top players that have been mention above have never played against each other, i could say Pele but right now even Jason Scotland is better than him cos he's old.
Don't even get me started on best goalie or striker cos how do you compare a right back and a centre forward.
people could say Ronaldinho, but what did he do in the world cup, nothing.
'Best' what is really the meaning of it anyway. is it who tries the best, who scores the most, (look at ronaldo, lazy **** but scores loads of goals)
The best footballer gotta say George, Just because of the name.

Pele is often considered to be the best footballer of all time. He helped Brazil win three FIFA World Cup tournaments, scored many goals during his career, and was known for fantastic maneuvers such as the bicycle kick.

Hm... but since this question is in the English football section, I guess David Beckham is the best in the English team, in terms of skill and talent.
