Black people whipping their children started in slavery when black children had to learn to be obedient, (especially black males, who were often a wrong word away from being hanged because masters felt threatened by them) if a black child did not learn to be obedient they would very often end up sold or killed (because who would want a slave around who talked back?), and so the parents would use every tactic to teach their children how to be good, obedient slaves and often this meant whipping them before the master did. Beatings were originated out of the black parent's love for their child and fear of the white people who owned them. Unfortunately it is a part of slave culture that still remains with some families today. I am in no way saying that all black people beat their children because I am black and have never been beaten by my parents. I'm just saying where it originated from. And some white people beat their children just as much as some black people do, so i dont know where you got that crap about only black parents whip their children. If that were true then there would be no white children in foster care and no white parents in jail for child abuse wouldn't there?

Maybe you never got whipped before, I think (if you are white). I myself, my father used to whip me when I was young for some bad things I made, but I am white, now does this mean only black people whip children? no! Whipping isn't the matter of race at all! Whipping is common in every race. It is both. By the way, I dont want to be offensive, but you sound you dont like black people by saying "because only black parents whip their childern? ", do you? If you do, please dont be a racist.

None of the black parents I know whip their children. I do know of some older people of different races who did whip their children decades ago when it was accepted in this country.

I don't know any parents who have literally used a whip in about the last 50 years. If you mean just getting hit with a belt or something, I got that all the time as a kid and I'm white.

Not only black parents whip their kids, whites do it too and so do Hispanics, Asians, etc. Not everybody whips their kids but ALL races have people in them who discipline their child with a good ol' fashion @ss-whuppin and I'm telling you now they're better off for it. I am black and I haven't had one person in my family YET get off scott-free without a whippin in their lives... but we've been better off for it. We did wrong and we knew we did wrong so that's what we got and we deserved it... because sometimes being grounded or getting things taken away just doesn't work. But I've had some black friends who, even when bad, NEVER got whippins and I've had white friends get a whippin as punishment (though most of them had never been touched). I'll tell you now the majority of kids who get whipped turn out better than those who don't. And most parents who whip and children who get whipped don't see it as child abuse either... rather as the punishment they'd rather avoid at all cost... but a whuppin'll make you behave!! I'm glad I got them and I'm a better person for it! I see some kids now, teenagers too, who deserve a few for the way they act. Some people'll see it as child abuse but I don't; it all depends on how you were raised really. But it's a parent thing...not a race thing.

I dont think its a black or white thing. It's just more open in black households. But while we're on the subject, people in general need to whip thier kids a little more. Not abuse, but the Bible says Spare the rod, Spoil the child. The government is in everyones business too much. That's why this generation of children are as bad as they are. When it was acceptable to beat your children, crime was down and children were much more respectful. Now kids are beating up teachers, and crime is up a lot. I say we need to do some drive by parenting and beat the **** outta these little heathens. Not abuse, but they need to get smacked a little to deter them when they get older.

Corporal punishment or whipping as you call it is not a black thing or white thing. It's simply a sign of poor parenting; instead of using your head you use your size and strength to impose your will. I've seen more than enough white and black parents that are guilty of this; and regardless of race, whipping is not the answer. Screaming and swearing is not a good substitute either.

Wow! Since when has 'whipping' been only a black thing....You need to get out more. Some black parents don't, some white parents do and vice versa....

Don't generalize. There are people who believe in the same things and act the same way, black or white.
I got whipped as a child, but have never whipped my kids.

This question doesn't make sense!

If only black parents whip their children, as you say, then it's a black thing!!!!

Except that white parents whip their children too, so it's both.
