Contrary to any rumours that are being circulated, Mars will never appear to be as big as the moon when viewed from Earth.
Giving in to account of Mars' eccentric orbit, the distance from Earth varies from 36 million miles (nearest planet after Venus) to over 250 million miles. Proportionately, this six-fold distance variation is the greatest of any planet. So even at it's closest, Mars will look smaller than Venus.
The moon is 238,855 miles from the Earth.

Why haven't you been keeping an eye on Mars before this year? Look up in your night sky and see what planets are actually viisble rather than letting some random chain email tell you what supposed to become visible.
The more you observe, the more you will "see" as your perceptive skills grow. That means even if the Mars hoax was actually true (which it is not -- Mars rises and sets during the day everywhere else on this planet and will do so for several months to come), you would be cheating yourself if you have not honed your observing skills
Get serious about observing the night sky. Don't wait for some supposed rumored "event" to get you outside and looking up. And ask yourself this: If it was true, why haven't you been hearing about it in/on the news?

Unfortunately, it's not true. The first poster was right that Mars was closest to the Earth in 2003. The bogus emails have been circulating every summer since then. In fact, Mars will be low in the sky and barely visible at all until December.

It doesn't really get bigger but it looks like it does. It will look smaller eventually too.
