Athlete's foot is caused by a fungus
Fungi grow and thrive in moist, dark conditions
To avoid this, keep feet away from areas that other ppl's barefeet may touch (that means wearing sandals at the pool, public showers, etc...)
keep feet dry
wash feet regularly after sweaty exercise
always wear fresh socks
baby powder helps absorb wetness
you're only 9, your sweat glands have not fully developed yet, so i wouldn't worry, but i would get into this practice so it becomes 2nd nature to you when you do get older it won't be a problem
Plus, it'll prevent you from catching warts from other ppl too

Fresh socks and powder are a must. Also consider getting breathable shoes like geox that have pores at the bottom which release moisture.
