You are perfectly right. Why should not America normalize relations with Cuba as they did with China and Russia. There are so many cubans in America that it is only wise for USA to establish diplomatic relations with Cuba so that the rate of illegal immigration from Cuba can be completely stopped. It is almost 45 years since the cuban-missile crisis and there is no point in sticking that gun any longer! And, it would be wonderful if diplomatic relations could be established while Fidel Castro is still alive!

There is no reason to continue our nonsense with Cuba. Relations should have been normalized a long time ago but the big baby (the US) was miffed because Castro had the guts to stand up to us...and we did fail in the invasion and our attempts to assassinate him. It was to the advantage of the US to open trade, not for the products of Cuba but to win friendship, and it would have helped Cuba with more economic stability. Cuba was drawn towards the Soviet Union as a friend and for an outlet for its agricultural products. This is another example of the US's heavy-handedness in the internal affairs of other nations.

Because Kennedy was shot and is now a martyr. So we are stuck with the sanctions in honor of him (Kennedy) and his exploding cigars. By the way, any trade with Cuba will only help Castro not his people. He takes it all for himself. Did you know he is a billionaire???? And ruler of an impoverished country to boot. Wow socialism is so good for the ruling class. At least the starving worker in Cuba gets to be in a workers Paradise (Communism) while we poor slobs have to labor under capitalist exploitation (maybe even get rich while doing it).

Why not let Cuba be what it wants to be. (not a question)
Fidel did what he had to do to hold on to his country, and prevent his beaches from becoming a Boardwalk for Casinos, gambling and other pollutants. Spanish is the official language on the island. Who else can boast that? I love my country, but why not do what China does: Absorb not Conquer. Everybody that tried to "conquer" China failed. Even the jews in China absorbed into the culture without problems.
Who needs another Miami Beach?
Look at Vieques, Filipinos, Viet Nam, Iraq.
Is there a pattern?
How about a Trump Plaza Casino in Elizabethtown, Jamaica?

Because the selfish aristocracy that lost all of their stuff in the revolution make substantial contributions to various political campaigns, that's why. If they had any compassion for their countrymen who couldn't afford to flee, they would have stayed and helped out. Cuba is a beautiful place full of really cool people. I'd really like to see relations get normalized with them.

The reason is simple the florida cubans harbor a very nasty none sensical grudge. They will accept nothingless than the total defeat of the communist government in cuba. They've made it plain they will only support politicians who think this way. The cubans in florida are a powerful voting bloc so they get there way. hope this changes but don't hold your breathe

It is the Miami expat Cubans that dictate relations with Cuba. This is wrong for the US and for Cuba. Maybe the expat Cubans should be deported back to Cuba. Perhaps they were wrong, and Fidel was right. He has kept his little nation together and happy, fed and clothed with few assets and little money.

i think you are right though. america will be willing to trade with cuba, if cuba will not turn into the next landing spot for the terrorists and anti-american interest. they are just too close for comfort.
