Having experienced something is having had "real proof" as opposed to training for something and never have experienced it.
Example: Who would be better in a space walk, a man who has only been in flight simulators, or that same man, having experienced previous space walks?

We learn better, and retain it much longer, when personal experience is involved. For example, a guy may want to buy a used car. His father tells him to check it out thorougly before he buys it beacuse he will not help if something goes wrong. But the car looks good, and the kid can't resist thinking about how cool he'll look behind the wheer - he will have lots of girls interested in him, etc.. He spends his summer earnings and borrows a little from a friend and buys the car without checking it out completely. He drives it home, and the next week it dies. He has learned that the next car he needs to get check out BEFORE he buys it. He would never have listened to his father until his father was proven right - thus, experience IS the best teacher to deliver the realities of life!

Here'a a good quote that I found that relates to your question. Of course a balance of education and experience would result in a better future...
“Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand.”

have two children. send one to school in england have the other one follow you around everywhere and not go to school or anything. then when they both have a life of their own ask them what they are doing. there is your proof.
