If you worked the cash register, you would be asked to greet the customers (guests) in a friendly manor. You would have to ring up their purchases, bag the items, take the payment, give out change, and often answer questions. Sometimes the questions have nothing to do with the store, such as, "do you know how to get to......?" Where is the closest bank? "do you have a boy friend (girlfriend), do you want to go out after work?"...ALWAYS say NO to that last question. Their is always a lot of customer service skills you have to use as a cashier. Sometimes people are not nice, it is important that you don't sink down to their level. If you actually worked in the customer service department, you would have to work with people who sometimes are not happy with the store. You would have to do what ever you could to make the customer happy (again that is NOT by going to the movies or out to dinner with them) with out giving away the store. Sometimes people can not be satisfied no matter what. You may have to stock merchandise, or move merchandise around the store. It is good to start with a good work ethic right from the beginning. Take the job seriously, show up to work and leave work on time. Don't talk on your cell phone while you are on the clock, follow the rules, and when you are ready to quit, do the honorable thing and give two weeks notice. You never know if anyone you work with or for can help you with your more permanent career goals in the future. Good Luck!!! I think the only bad thing about working at Target would be spending all of your paycheck at the store, it is a great place and they have a lot of great merchandise.

It depends on the position you apply for. If you are hired as a Sales Associate, yes - you will have to work the cash register. You can also try to get a position working at the fitting room or the photo lab. Or, you can work in the stock room at the back. Read your job requirements carefully... if a job says you have to work the register, you can't turn around and say you won't do it because you will be fired.

1. It depends on what you were hired to do.
2. Every cash register is different. Even some Target stores have different cash registers. You just need to ask your supervisor.
Just do what you are told. Ask questions. Sound confident. Sound pleasant to work around. Mind your business and you will be fine.

No they can't make you do whatever they want there are laws protecting the work force.
They would probably ask you to stock shelves, tidy up and if they train you on cash then you would be expected to work on cash. but, if you don't want to work on cash ask them if there is something else in the store you could do.

Yeah, if you work for them, they own you. They can make you do whatever they want. That may require you wearing a dog collar and walking on all fours while you get spanked by elderly men. Ah, the things we do for money.
