I'll take a book over a movie almost everytime. The exception is when there is a 'novelization' based on a movie. The book for the first Batman movie was atrocious.

This is a hard choice. If I had to choose though I'd say books because you can read a book anywhere, anytime - a movie you have to be at a movie theatre or have the movie and view it at home or where there is viewing equipment. Book, portable, anywhere!
