And if so, would they marry them and have them accepted into the family? Or would they just date them/sleep with them? I'm referring to such a thing happening in the US. I'm curious, as this is a common thing in such Creole societies like Trinidad, Guadaloupe, Mauritius, for example, where the populations are predominantly Indian and African and mixed races.

Well, as you said I was born and raised in Guadeloupe, FWI and we have different communities here, among which, there are the children of workers coming from India in the 19th c. At first, mixing was hard but since the mid 20th c., things have changed a lot and Indian, Black and white people tend to mix much more.

I am a Black Caribbean woman who is recently exploring a new relationship with a Sri Lankan man born in Sri Lanka but raised over here in the UK in a predominantly Black community.

I find that he knows more about my culture than I do his, I put this down to the fact that he has had previous experience dating black women outside of his own race/culture and I have had none as I have never dated outside of mine so this is so very new to me and I am having to learn as I go along.

So to answer your question it does happen just not as often as other mixed relationships do as for marriage I really can not speak on that as yet.

Well, I'm Sri Lankan. But that doesn't mean I can vouch for the all the other Sri Lankan and Indian men. But this I can tell you...

We are a very family minded bunch of people. In Sri Lanka the divorce rate is very low. So even if the couple is not in good terms with each other, they will continue because they don't want to breakup their marraige and destroy the family.

So if a Sri Lankan or Indian man sees a committed and caring black woman that he could potentially live together for the rest of his life then he will surely stick with her.

But if not, then what you say may happen...

(I'm not saying that this is good, but it is the way it is.)

depends from person to person, its not the question of race, and belonging to a particular culture
