yes, it was required. Infact, this should have been started well-before by the time of kapil dev and all.. This is really innovative idea. The intentions are to make players more alert, active and energatic, and to bring a certain confidence in players.
You can see the results from the very next series of india.

The military training helps the cricketers keep fit. It helps the body to be more flexible. The training will be of help to anybody and also to the cricketers also.

The Indian cricketers are not armymen.
They play with bat & balls,
not with guns & bombs.
Now, their main aim is to win the world cup,
not to win any war.
The Indian trainers have gone mad

they are given military training in case all this in the camp fight start getting heated up - they can fight good- cheers guys we can even see WWE with CRICKET

this is just in case the Indian Army runs short of soldiers during overseas assignments. in such cases, our players can fight both with the bat and the guns :-) truly one of a kind..

i think it shud inspire them, and help improve their fitness. but jus imagine, a bowler getting a grenade, he will pull out the pin ,and start rubbing it on his trouser by default, so it is really dangerous!
