If you live in the USA, find a local art guild and join it. Also a website would be great. Try to take your art to any street fairs or festivals. People like to buy paintings from artist's that they have seen painting, so get a permit, set up your easel and display your other work and paint something while you sit there. That is a very effective way to sell. People will come up to you and say, "Art you an Artist?". Which is very cute, really. Find festival's and enter any and all contests that you can. The more you win the more valuable your art becomes. Then hopefully a gallery will accept your work and you will be on the road to success. Depending on where you live, you might find a store that will sell on commission, you display your art, they use it as a decoration and if it sells, they get about 20 to 30 percent of the selling price. That works very well. You will have to keep a detailed record of each piece of art (Name, photo of it, date painted, date placed in store, store name and number) and it will be your responsibility to change them out if they don't sell and keep track of your sales. You don't want to bug the people, just stop in every month or so. BUT only in boutiques of people you can trust. You may want to get insurance, as most people business insurance will not cover your art. If you just want to paint, then someone else could manage your art, but then you would have to pay them. Marketing is a very important part of art, so you should read all you can about marketing art. I am sure there are sites online to deal with that. Read, Read, Paint, Paint, Read, Paint, Sell, Sell, Sell. LOL Happy painting and hope you make lots of profit!

eBay is probably the best place to start. You would actually be surprised at the amount of art collectors who surf eBay.
