I am looking to rent a flat in Edinburgh. I don't really know the city so would appreciate any advice on particular areas that are nice to live in, and any that I should be wary of. I will be working in the south of the City (not far from the new royal infirmary hospital in Little France), so it would be good to know which areas have good transport links here too. Thanks!!

Hi.
You are on the outskirts of the city in Little France. However the transport system is excellent for getting to the new Royal infirmary as nearly all buses go there now. The nearby areas include the Inch, Moredun , Craigmillar and Niddrie. I'm originally from Moredun and wouldn't go against it, but for a stranger i would not recommend renting in this or any of the other areas mentioned. Nothing wrong with them if you know where and where not to go. Moving back into the city a few miles would be your best option. Possibly Old Dalkeith road or Mayfield, are best areas for renting. Good neighbourhoods and not as pricey as city center properties. Hope this helps. Enjoy Edinburgh. It's a great city but be vigilant. If you get the chance. Visit the Robins Nest pub on Gilmerton Road. Not far from the ERI.

Well, we lived in the Leith area near the Firth of Forth and absolutely loved the neighborhood; plus, the Water of Leith is right there. Dudley is also a nice neighborhood nearby, but a little pricey.

I applied for a job there last year.

For: it's a great city, lots to do.
Against: For me, it's far away from family, and property's gotten more and more expensive.
