A breastfed baby will very rarely get constipation because breast milk is more easily digested.
Bottlefed babies frequently suffer from constipation because formula milk is harder for a baby to digest.
When a baby first becomes constipated, it can be the start of a vicious circle.
This is because it will hurt your baby to pass the large hard stools that have gathered in the intestine. Cracks around the anus may appear; these may start to bleed and cause more pain.
What to do:
Massage your baby's tummy
Move your baby's legs in a cycling motion
Give your baby a bath
Check you are making formula correctly
If the above suggestions don't work for your baby, consult a doctor about special laxatives for chronic constipation.

Stool that is hard (firmer than peanut butter) or foul-smelling (you'll know) in a child who has not yet had solid foods may represent something as simple as needing more to drink (especially during hot weather), but it may also be the sign of a disease. Contact your pediatrician to discuss the situation.
Bananas, rice cereal and applesauce all tend to produce firmer stools. Carrots and squash are constipating for some babies. Pears, peaches, plums, apricots, peas and prunes make stools softer. By balancing the diet, you can often keep the stools comfortably mid-range. If the stools are still too firm, juice is the gentlest medicine to soften them up. Apple juice twice a day is a good bet. If this doesn't work, prune juice is even better. Also, when your son is straining you might want to put him in a tub of warm water. This will relax his muscles and make the stool easier to pass.
Glycerin suppositories can be very helpful if diet and juice don't work, but constipation that is stubborn enough to make these optimal should be discussed with your pediatrician. The same holds true for baby laxatives (hint: if your pediatrician does recommend a laxative, unprocessed bran, 1/2 teaspoon mixed with food twice a day is much cheaper than Maltsupex, and about as effective).

Yes that is constipation. Start by giving him apple juice or prum juice mix it with a little cause by him being a month old. It may not come out right then but later he will start to pass a lot of gas and then the poo. Do not over react like my friend did and take the baby to the hospital and they told her the same thing. One other thing you can do is give the baby some pedilyte to help his constipation.

You can give your baby prune juice or boiled water or bananas. You can also put some petroleum jelly on a Q-Tip and insert it into the baby's butt and sort of gently wiggle it around a bit. These are very good, but if the baby is still constipated you should definitely take the baby to the doctor.

Sounds like constipation. Are you breast feeding? If so, drink MORE water. If not breastfeeding, try a little bit of Karo syrup (1teaspoon) in the formula. Then sit and wait. If things still dont move along in 5 days, go get a baby enema. I had to do that with my son once a month. He was stuck more then a cow in quicksand!

I bottle feed and add an extra half ounce of water in the bottle when my son gets constipated and the usual amount of milk. I do this for about three bottles and then he goes, and trust me he goes it's not very pleasant!!

My daughter had this situation, and he or she does not drink cooled boiled water so I extra a tiny volume of fruit juice to it. Use the sparkling , no longer from consentrate variety, attempt orange or apple, my daughter likes apple and mango, dilute some million section juice to 10 factors water. additionally massaging the tummy, commencing low on HER nicely suited hand side, as much as her abdomen button, around the coolest of her abdomen button and down her left side facilitates, verify you do it in a clockwise direction as this is the way the bowel travels. I extensively utilized to place a tiny little bit of vaseline on a cotton bud and in simple terms placed it round her anus and up very fairly. she gets over this degree, as long as she is taking some formulation and not vomitting dont project too a lot. If she does start up refusing nutrition thoroughly and vomitting take her to medical doctors or ER.

he needs magnesium. If you are breastfeeding then you can drink water with a high magnesium content and eat lots of fruit, if he takes the bottle then make it half with high magnesium water and half normal spring water.
You can buy suppositories for babies at the pharmacy, they won't hurt your son if you wet them a little before putting them in. It's great because they usually take 1 - 5 minutes to work, and when i use them on my 3month old she doesn't even have to strain, doesn't cry - i don't think she even notices that she pooing!
