You are in a good position, because you have plenty of time to develop your portfolio before seeking employment. You need to begin working on this asap - as many examples of your artwork as possible presented in a book or folder.
Most tattooists charge at least a couple of grand for taking on an apprentice, but it is the ONLY way to learn, buying a kit from Ebay or whatever is a waste of time. Right now, concentrate on your portfolio and think about where you want to work, write letters to all the studios in this area and most importantly, be persistent. The only way to become a decent tattooist is to graft and learn from a professional. Good luck!

You must be good at art, and not afraid of needles.
