Check out the "Sunsetter" awnings, they have models which are enclosed, and retract automatically.

Pretty wide open question. The relevant questions that come to mind are:
- what do you have now for a patio?
- how it is constructed?
- from what materials?
- how good of shape is it in?
- what do you wish to end up with when completed?
Patio is a pretty broad definition.

If you have a simple poured concrete slab now there is only so much you can do with it, without getting into considerable rennovation. It has limitations. Especially if you are hoping to end up with a four season room. That is to say heated, etc.

If you have a wooden deck currently, with a railing and some steps etc. and you are wanting to just add on to it with some window & screen combinations or something similar, that is another completely different process. Again, an unheated three season porch would entail something less than the year round room project.

To get started, go to your Home Depot or Lowes or local library and look at project books on patios. Find what you have now, or something similar, and then find what similar design you want as finished project. Compare the two. It may be as simple as adding onto existing structure. And then again it may be easier to start over.

Every construction project starts with a plan. Yours should too. Before you can get from where you are now to where you want to be in the future, the road map is plan. The project will go much easier by having done your homework and thought through as many of the details as you possibly can, and documented them in your plans. The books I mentioned earlier have much of this homework done for you, the planning, provided you can find similar projects as mentioned above.

Good luck with it. If you wish to add more details as to what you have now and where you think you want to be, re-enter your question with those details. It will possibly get you more repsponses of a better quality.

Good luck with it.
