I'd say Richard Petty with 200 wins and 7 championships

King Richard was and will all ways be the best driver in NASCAR RACING no matter weather it is called WISTON CUP--NEXTEL CUP or what ever sponsor they have. RICHARD and DALE SR. both have 7 championships each, RICHARD had won his last one before DALE had won his first one. Now don't think for one minute that Richard did not have any competition when he was winning races. There was plenty of good drivers and teams. Dale was a driver that would as soon wreck you as to pass you clean, and did so many a time. Dale could drive a car and if he put as much time into trying to do what was right as he did what was wrong no telling how many more championships he could have won. AND DALE NEVER HAD THE SPORTSMANSHIP THAT KING RICHARD HAD. These are some harsh words to speak about DALE but they are true..

Petty may have 200 wins but he and the late dale earnhardt dont each have 7 championships...Pettys first 4 where not winston cup so SR has more championships then petty

Richard Petty or Dale Earnhardt Sr.!
Tough to decide between the two! There are a lot of good reasons to back both of them on deserving this title! I used to always think Petty hands down until I read someones question comparing the two, then I was kinda torn!
I think Iif I was forced to choose one, I'd stick with Petty, but it would be tough for sure!

Dale Earnhardt Sr. Sure Petty won alot more races,but they ran up to 50 races a year with very few decent drivers Also back in Petty's haydays there were very few restrictions on individual cars,so they could do almost anything to improve power.

Now this is a good question.I have followed NASCAR since 1960 and have seen good fair bad and those I would not let park cars in a parking lot.
As for today Junior,Stewart,Gordon,Hamlin,Kahne.
10 years ago Earnhart,Waltrip,Martin,Wallace,Jarrett.
The 60's and 70,s Lorenzen,Petty,Baker,Allison,Yarborough.
Start thru 50's Turner,Ralph Earnhart,Buck Baker,Flock brothers,Lee petty.
But there were the drivers like Gant,Weatherly,Moore,Davy Allison,Kyle Petty,Elliot,Goldsmith.These drivers were all good drivers.There are drivers like Sam Ard,Red Farmer,that could have been tops if they had the equiptment.
But to name one is not easy there is a tie,Richard Petty and Dale Earnhart.

that's a hard call KING PETTY drove a lot of races and Dale Sr. & the KING both have 7 championships sorry to tell you sara Jeff will tie Dale with his next win but still neds three more championships to even tie him..which with the talent today will NEVER happen he might win one more championship but not 3

Dale Earnrhart Sr. Know as the "Intimidator", race drivers feared seeing him in thier rearview, May not have won as many as Petty, but was THE BEST DRIVER THERE EVER WAS!
