Because of pregnancy complications, we had an ultrasound at the end of each month of pregnancy. Consequently,
my newborn has been diagnosed with sensory level hearing deficiency if not totally deaf. We suspect that the accumulation of ultrasound "radiation" over the course of the pregnancy may have caused my babies disability.

I'm leaning toward "I doubt it.", but since I have no idea how much output, in decibels, that an ultrasonic scanner puts out, I couldn't really make a reasonable judgement. Since ultrasonic is above our hearing range, it shouldn't really have any harmful affects. But in the case of an infant, who knows? Based on my knowledge of ultrasound, I would think that the pregnancy complications would be a more likely suspect. This would definitely be better left to the experts to determine. I would think that because ultrasound is so widespread with virtually no bad press, that even if it did cause the deficiency, you would have a difficult time proving it.

'nuff said?

Sorry. Praying for the hearing or restoration of healing in your baby. Don't think of what was done that may have caused it (unless you're thinking lawsuit) because this will cause so much guilt, regret and resentment which causes the buildup of plaque in your heart. Only look forward with hope to helping your precious little one. By the way, no I very much doubt the ULTRAsound (above human sound) effect the baby adversely. Thank God for infant testing and congratulations on your sweet new arrival.

Ultrasounds will not cause any harm to your baby. Having just completed a paper on the use of ultrasound (so painful that I winced when I saw the word), I can safely tell you that the waves used to examine a baby are far above any human's ability to perceive. Hence the reasoning they're called "ultrasound." Your baby should not have any adverse effects at all from ultrasounds, even if you do them as often as you have.

Ultrasounds have no radiation. It is merely high frequency sound waves that project an image of the baby onto a screen. There are a few physicians out there that have questioned the safety of ultrasounds, but the majority of doctors, including our high risk perinatologist, state that ultrasounds have no side effects. I would definitely speak with your baby's audiologist about this if you have continued concern over the cause. Good luck!

no I don't think that it can result in hearing loss. I had excessive ultrasounds with my first child due to complications and she hears just fine.

Best to consult a doctor about this.
