See there is such a thing as book intelligence and common sense intelligence. For a person to be considered "Intelligent" the person needs to have a happy balance of the two...If not they really are stupid.

This is because of the fact that Intelligence is not something you are born with when you come into the world. You acquire it with time and the world we live in if full of stupidity because the world has moved away from the laws of the Most High and what apperas like wisdom or intelligence to the world is actully stupidity so with time even the most intelligent person becomes generally very dull because the atmospher in which we live kills any intelligence that was left within both the individual and society in which we find ourselves in.

There are two reasons:
A) The amount of time taken up learning academic things takes away from the time used learning about things in the real world.
B) High intelligence appears, from the comorbidity rates, to be a mental illness. Of course this is not true, but it still has a physical effect.

Because alot of highly intelligent people lack street smarts or common sense. They cannot think outside the box, so they may apper 'stupid' to more street savy people seasoned with life's experiences.
