Yes. Parents should not allow young children to watch violence until they can distinguish between reality and fiction. I myself was not allowed to watch horror movies, or any other show with violent content as a child.
("" However I do realize that I have no control when they are at a friends home as to what they watch and I must have faith in my kids."")
I do not think that this harmed me or made me nieve in anyway. I had a very good childhood with plenty of activities to keep my young mind occupied. My children are mostly grown ( I have 6 & the youngest is 16 ) and each have a job and 4 have graduated the other 2 are in high school and set to graduate as well. I keep their minds occupied with creative activities and we talk as a family. I do not allow programs such as MTV and the like to be viewed in my home by my kids,There is too much violence in videos of today. Everywhere you look there is a reference to sex, drugs and violence. If a child is brought up in a home that demonstrates that to become such a person as vidoes and tv programming teach then they grow up without morals and will not be the person that god had intended one to be. such programming teaches one that they do not have to work hard in life to become rich. Rich is a word with abstract meaning. You are rich if you have your family and respect one another and can give yourself to helping others. Society plays too much on the material objects in life. People do need to re-evaluate the meaning of their true existence and shed this theory that they are here on the beautiful planet to do for themselves without regard for each other.

Being submerged in an environment of violence desensitizes a child to violent behavior. Such an environment makes teaching a child anger management and conflict resolution a much more difficult task.

Yes. I believe so. If there is a parent there that can help the child differentiate between real, unreal, right, wrong, and just plain odd, the child can develop a better sense for these things later in life. Then, maybe, the child will be more righteous in life later on without even thinking about it. Then again, that may just be my take on it.

For some people, maybe. Some parents let their children watch whatever they want whenever they want. My neice lets her 5 year old, and believe me, it shows. He considers some of what he sees on tv to be normal behavior and it definitely isn't. I do believe it does affect children, so it's not just an excuse, though.

Scapegoat. You should be aware of what your kids are watching and if it isn't appropriate then set the parental controls on your TV or cable box.
