Well, I'm in the dark, what is the difference between pci express and regular pci? If it's a new card, take it back, with all your paperwork and exchange it for what you need.
Don't replace mb, exchange the card..

I have an ASUS P5ND2 SLI and it works just fine with a Pentium 4 and the same amount of RAM. But I wanted to have a SLI config with 2 video cards. There are other motherboards out there, check out Toms Hrdware or other similar sites and be sure that the motherboard you are looking at has LG775 processor socket, is ddr2 compatible with the frequecy of your RAM (533, 667 etc), has pci express slot(s), has FSB greater than 800 for the processor (i think!) and other stuff that you might want ( for example do you have SATA I or II or PATA HDD ? you need LAN? etc.). For example I would buy Asus P5ld2v (just to give you an example)

I have the same set up as you and you do not need a pci express slot because one does not exist on any mother board you can use any available pci slot for your graphics card and enjoy!

Plus if you wish to know what PCI Express is:

NVIDIA is continually working with partners to develop technologies and products that enrich your computing experience, and PCI Express is a prime example. PCI Express is a brand new high-performance technology for PCs. By working hand-in-hand with Intel in the development of this revolutionary bus architecture, NVIDIA provides cutting-edge tools that enhance your experience and prepare you for the future of computing.

With a scalable bandwidth that far exceeds that of AGP 8X and PCI buses, NVIDIA’s PCI Express solutions deliver a new level of computer performance. NVIDIA’s desktop, mobile, and professional PCI Express solutions deliver faster graphics and system performance for every type of computer user.

You have a intel pentium 4 socket478 cpu. Now your memory are you sure you have ddr2 memory or is it ddr? according to asus website it is ddr 184 pin memory. check pricewatch.com
now i would check out asrock abit aopen soyo biostar msi websites for a compatable motherboard then go shopping for the model you're looking for.

i think you have a socket 478 pentium 4, probably a 2.8C Northwood.

im afriad that your motherboard is indeed AGP, and that your processor isnt supported in any boards that have PCI-E that i can think of offhand. (i can think of loads that dont!)

also i think your memory is almost certainly just DDR regular, not DDR2.

There no other better mother board other than the one you use now for ur 2.8.
It's better as said by others, exchange the PCI Express card.

Thank you.
