Going through my great grandparents attic, we came across a blue mask. We've heard stories that my uncle was a member of the KKK, and we were wondering if this is actually proof that he was, but we've never heard of a blue mask.

If you don't know, can you advise me where to question. I've been all over the web and have found nothing about colored masks.

I don't like the KKK nor do I like what they stand for, but can anyone tell me why there is a law that says they cannot wear their masks while making a public appearance but the black panthers can wear masks to cover their faces AND carry assault rifles while marching in public.

My grandfather tells me that they often used a mask to wear under the hood to hide their identity when they had to issue some corporal punishment and did not want the "witness" to know who they were.
Not because they were afraid of getting into trouble but more to intimidate. The ones that Did not want them around were more afraid of the Klan than they were of Bob the farmer wearing bed sheets.

Some KKK members where different colors to represent high in rank. Not only your uncle might be a member, but he might of been the leader!

Can't remember all the colors (it's been years since I did that report) but the Grand Dragon wore Purple (?) robes and hood. Different color robes and hood meant a higher ranking in the order. White robes and hoods were for the peons who did the grunt work. For you uncle to have a blue hood meant he had worked his way higher up in the organization

Maybe your uncle held and officers position in the KKK. I have heard they do wear colored masks if you are a high official in their organization
Was your UNCLE black? Please read this link if he was black it says that sometimes blacks would wear blue masks with the KKK
