Anyone can be a model as long as they have the right attitude, measurements are not set in stone people look for a unique look not just a few numbers. If you are happy with the work, and don't expect overnight success, you will be fine. If you are actually thinking about it here is some advise.
I have heard a lot of bad thing about SOME (not all) modelling agencies and how they make you pay for photos and photo sessions before they take you on then never give you any work. Always check with the local Better Business Bureau in teh US or Trading Standards in the Uk or Similar organisation elsewhere.
I think a better starting place before you go to agencies is if you have a friend who is reasonable with a camera (do not have to be a professional or even that good just okay) Just take 100 photos of yourself in different poses, clothing and backgrounds then pick out 10-20 nice photos. You can then use this as a portfolio, and even better instead of printing them which cost you money every time, host them on a website and get some business cards print with the website address on and just hand these out instead. This is a far cheaper way of doing it and with no RISK. You should never have to pay to get a job if you do there is a high chance it is a scam.
However if you would like a personal portfolio site please contact me and I will set you on up for free. I can design you a fully personalised flash website with as much or little information and then host it for you. This site can contain a gallery of your photos, personal information, list of work, contact details, etc or if you prefer just a couple of photos and nothing else. It can be password protected and all images will be protected as is humanly possible, or the photos can be available to download.
Examples of work can be provided on request. Just message me here if you want, I am a professional website designer but have lots of free time (and enough money) so I am currently doing free sites for small bands, small artist etc, basically anyone who could not afford them otherwise. I have my own hosting server so can offer hosting servers or you can host the site yourselves. No images sent to me will be used for anything other than your site and I will not give anyone your detail or link to the site. You will have complete control and the site can be removed or changed at any time. This is not a scam and I will design a site for FREE, I do not need the money, and enjoy working. If you do want it message me you can tell me what you want and how you want it done and I will help.
Depending how old you are I may require parents permission before i will do any work.

Ok depending upon your age, you need to be different heights. For 18 & younger, you need to be atleast 5'6'' for even just print. If your interested in being a runway model on the other hand, 5'9''-5'11'' is the perfect height. The majority of great models are around that height, except for Kate Moss whos 5'7''. Anyways also depending on where you live. Well any good agency, is very busy. So once a week they except a bunch of people to come to an "open call". There will be lots of other people there(well depends really) then the agency will look at you and tell you if your right for their agency. Well its more than just that, but you get the right idea. Also try visiting the more well known agencies, like ford of elite, this isures that you wont be part of a money making scam.

seriously it depends on what type of model you want to be, for runway you need to be very slim and about 5'8 at least. If you are talking glamour work you can afford to be more curvy and obviously bigger chested, which the runway agents tend to avoid. The best thing you can do is get some shots and put a portfolio together then hit the agents with it, you'll know from their feedback if you stand a chance and what you can do to improve.

Improve your complexsion. Have an interest toewards make-up and develop sense of costume! Use mild make-ups but slightly higher than usual! Try and act in front of a mirror and bringout the best in you! List them down! Concentrate on those special features! Work hard! Take as many photographs! Specially close-ups and mid-shots that you can see the face values in it!
Finally for standard measures, exercise daily! Yoga and other therapies may help you! Give importance to your pluses and concentrate to develop in it!

To be an international model u have to be at least 5.9,weight varies on what you are modeling you need to have a portfolio taken by a reputable photographer and then you need to have an agent no one works with out an agent.
what Gypsie said about agents paying for ur portfolio isnt always true you have to have some pictures to show them they may help you improve ur portfolio but they wont pay for it

Have natural beauty. Don't wear too much make-up. You don't always have to be slim, there are plus size models too. Go to a model agency and if they think you have potential, they will sign you up. NOTE: If you have potential to be a model, no agency will ask for you to pay for a portfolio. They will take some shots of you, free of charge if they want you on their books. If you have to pay for one, it's unlikely you have what it takes to become a model.(And you don't need to be well groomed, Best agencies will take you if your quirky too.) They just want the blank canvass to work with.
Good Luck

U must be a size 10 or under. To do catwalk modeling u must be 5ft 8 or over. U must also have a good personality. U need to be confident in front of a camera and u MUST be able to walk properly. It's a great business if your lucky enough to get in to it.

Hi there. I have just become a model so can tell you everything you need to know.
- your height is most important: you should be at least 1.73 m tall!
- your bust should be 84cm or bigger
- and your waist should be aroud 96cm or slimmer.
Futher on.. you should be well groomed: nails, hair, skin, make-up, ect and ALWAYS smile - energetic models get the most jobs..
So...happy modelling!
