You cannot "close" the pores of the skin! Your body needs them to be open anyway. Cosmetically you can refine them to some extent but it takes time, effort and money.
1. Most effective: Professional peel by your Dermatologist - expensive and rages from uncomfortable to outright painful in terms of after-wards while you heal. Depends on chemicals used/ chemical combinations/type of skin & genetic background etc but end results impressive.
2. Retin A from your Dr. works but takes a "long" time if you want results fast. Three months to two years plus and regular maintanence applications of it thereafter, once or twice a week. But is the old stand-by in the medical industry. MUST use a sunscreen!!!
3. Alpha Hydroxies/Glycolic products - can work wonders. Some are affordable like the Aqua-Glycolic range. But you MUST use a sunscreen! Avon have an Alphahydroxy mask that helps refine the surface skin quickly and shows immediate results. Problem with these products are that they can be uncomfortable/harsh and lead to over-use in an attempt to improve your skin.
Note: Use of a face-pack will help short term (Going out for the evening) but can be too drying if you opt for clay bases and use daily.
Traditional recipe: Whip up an egg white, add a drop of camphor, menthol (I'd skip these if you're going out in daylight after use) and pat on. Works again - short term. Comment: Slides off your face, dreadful! You have to lay down for this process to dry.
4. If you can lay your hands on old fashioned Alum powder at your Pharmacy, a pinch mixed in with your toner will reduce the size of the pore for a few hours/important event - also help matt the skin if you tend to be oily.
5. Do it at home stuff:
Mashed Strawberries - add a teaspoon of brandy, mix and slather on. Wash off after twenty minutes. Can keep on longer. Will slowly exfoliate surface. Bleaches complexion a little too.
Plain yoghurt - said to refine the skin. (Can't say this tip has ever worked wonders for me!) Apply and wash off after twenty minutes.
White wine - historic "wash" to improve the skin. A primitive form of Alphyhydroxy therapy. Swab over face on cottonwool. Best to apply a sunscreen over it if going out in the sun.
Malaysia is in the throws of Asprin delight right now!
Does work but not very pleasant texturally, further does dry out your skin. AND again use sunscreen!!!!
Crush 4 to 6 asprin tablets. (Grind as fine as you possibly can!) Mix with a little water or a cleanser such as Cetaphil if your skin is more sensitive/dry). Apply. Let dry and wash off, using a scrub motion BE GENTLE. Comment: Does tighten pores for a couple of days, helps dry spots, bleaches a tiny bit, does eliminate blackheads with time BUT it is strong to use daily.
Good luck!

Make sure you cleanse your face at least twice daily and use hydrating mask as often as possible. Go alcohol-free and natural. That's what I do.
