I was wondering if anyone knows if credit cards numbers work like phone numbers where by the number you can find out like what state, and or city the card was issued in and what company issued it? Im conserned about my personal information and avoiding potential identity theift issues. Any educated answers would be welcome!!

Partially. Each number contains a check digit to make sure reasonably sure that the number was entered correctly. It is not 100% guaranteed but catches most errors. Also the first 2 digits, if I remember correctly, id the type of card--Visa, Master Card, Discover, etc.

credit cards are given generally by serial numbers , not according to the places, Amex, Visa have a perticular code serial numbers that they follow and so does masters, eg Amex will start with a 47...., or a 39 etc, also each bank that are franchise for these cards have their serial numbers issued to from the card companies.

Yes your credit card number is like your identity only it doesn't change when you move house.

Lol, yes I think you have the bank's/cc company's digits first, there are several codes for this and then the rest is random.

oh yes, govt officials and banks are 2 names of same mindset, they interexchange info frequently, plus your kinda naked before them !
