Hopeless , heartless , feelingless , loveless , worthless ...
( Anything ending with LESSS ) ...

If you have spread your DNA to your offspring, your genes won't be dead. And if your shared memories, dreams and experiences are recounted to others, witnessed by others and generally shared with others, neither will the thoughts you will have generated and recorded in the world.

Including thoughts such as this.

Ideas which spread from person to person are called "memes". Invent a few nice ones, and spread 'em around. That way, at least some of your thoughts will thereby survive.

when dead, we can continue to not only be remembered, but also to influence people and have an impact in the world. in that sense, we are still a real force.

however, we can no longer change or evolve or grow. we can no longer appreciate our influence or gain satisfaction from it.

i guess its one of the consolation prizes for the dead.

except of course a few generations later even those remembering the dead will be dead themselves, so then the dead will be deader than ever.

Bodies, the dispensable part of ourselves, die all the time. On the other hand, that which is immortal and immutable, the spirit, has a way of persisting (as all energy forms do) in the minds of others. This fact is the surest sign that there is life after death, that the spirit is in the true form of the Maker (pure energy), and we really are the Children of God.

We are scientifically dead when our bodies cease to function, heart stops beating, brain activity stops, body cells are starved of oxygen and die. We do not perform any of the seven life processes-move,reproduce,sense,grow,repsire,excrete and feed,so we are dead. Remembering someone is just activity in that persons brain-it is not connected with the dead persons,it does not make the dead persons body suddenly kick into life! No,sorry, when you're dead, you're dead, even if people remember you. But not to worry, because we'll all meet up in the after-life non-stop party...wey hey! See you there! xx

Someone is considered medically dead when: "no longer having life, numb, unresponsive, all vital organs nonfunctional"

If you are talking spiritual, I agree. To be dead and remembered is to keep one's memory alive. And when stories of me are told, I am sure I will be quite alive in the room with my family, chuckling.
Thank you for asking such a good question, God bless!

It depends on how you interpret 'dead' and 'alive' doesn't? 'In living memory' springs to mind.
If you believe in the Christian teaching you will live in heaven (or purgatory, or hell) and if you believe in reincarnation you will come back as another living entity - depending on which sect you opt for.
My parents emigrated from the UK to Australia and at the time I had no way of getting to visit them. When they walked to the departure lounge at Heathrow, for me it was like they were walking to their own graves. A relatively short time after my uncle died and the sermon he gave was about 'being in the next room' and 'just over the horizon' - so there is a similarity to say the least.
By the time I did manage to make a trip to Australia to see them, my Mum died after we had made the booking but before we got there. When we told her on the phone that we had booked to go out, she said 'I can't wait!' And she didn't

This is true, the saying "Your memory will still live on" Is spot on. The physical body may have died, but who knows for the spirit and the soul of a person? It's a nice thought to think that we move on to somewhere else. to start another existence, it helps us to except our physical body and believe that's it's just a shell for your real selves!

I don't agree. We are truly dead when we can't share anything with anyone else or anything. You might remember someone who passed away, but that doesn't mean that you'll get to hear their advice or to know if they still love you after a defeat or something like that.
It doesn't matter how much you remember someone, that doesn't make their absence in the least smaller.

The soul separates from the body when the body dies and the departed lives on in others hearts, so I'd say they live on in memory with love felt in the memory, a warmth they keep alive.
