the answer to this is controversial.

While he was hitting home runs untill the end of his career, weather he hit 714 or 715 is being disputed.

When he played, if you hit a homerun walk-off home run and the runners on base scored to win, you would be credited with an RBI and a triple. the rule was later revised and granted the batter a home run. The Babe was never credited with a homerun he hit in this situation, so he is technicaly still at 714.

He has 714 home runs and it took him 22 years, or 8,399 at bats to get it. And a99blkdog is wrong he had 94 wins as a pitcher.

the real question here is should bonds ( steroid user ) be allowed to hold the record. Shoeless joe, pete rose and others got kicked out of the hall of fame for misconduct. why should bonds be any different.
