why or what proves. its not round but geoid. it's that shape to equalise gravity from the sun equally. like a bubble: it has equal pressure all round it so it takes the shape. if more pressure was on the top it would be flat on top n round at the bottom

Lots of correct answers up there.
there are multiple factors involved, icluding but not limited to
gravity and centrifugal force.

But I would like to point out that the earth is not really "round" or even spherical.

If you take a hollow ball, place it on the ground and apply some pressure on it, it becomes slightly flattened on the top and bottom and more bulging in the middle. That is a more accurate descripton of the earth's shape. Some people say it is more or less orange shaped. Well actually there is no geometric shape that is like the earth, so the earth is umm.. "earth shaped". fortunately scientists invented a word to describe just that shape. : Geoid

Million and million years back when the earth became it took the shape of shear. Since at that time the earth material was in liquid form and we know that the liquid drops always take the round shape because of surface tension force, hence because of this reason the earth is round. We generally say that earth is round but actually it is elliptical because the round shape gets distorted in elliptical shape due to centrifugal force which comes into play due to the revolving motion of the earth.

Probably due to the strong magnetic force exerted by the innermost core which contains a high percentage of molten iron particles and thereby act as a ferromagnetic material. That also why the earth is considered to be a natural magnet. The magnetic force is able to attract equally from all sides.

because it's not square
because that's the simplest form for a sub-atomical structure
because that's what the Bush Administration's official policy says
because it's a yin-yang thing
because it's the best way to deal with heat resistance in space
becasue we should ask Stephen Hawkings
becasue Earth didn't want to be different from its other planetary brothers and sisters...
who knows?

Because it just is back then people thought the world was flat and when people drove off they thought people would fall off the face of the earth.

It's because of it's rotation, the centrifugal force towards the core makes it spherical!

it's spherical, not round and it's cos of how matter coalesces under the influence of gravity, centrifugal force, mass, etc.
