I've always been thought to be a real tomboy (how I dress, look, and act)... I might flirt with everyone, but I'm a gentleman around my friends that are girls... They love it. : )
I got a short hair cut and now butch is a more common thought. I know I'm Bi, but not many others do.
It has gone from acceptance of my boyishness to stand-offishness.

When I say I'm a "gentleman", what I mean is; I open doors for them, I complement them, I carry the heavier bags, I pay attention to them, I'm nice... I make them feel they are important. Which isn't all that hard...

I guess anyone can be a tomboy.... Being a butch... we don't have a term for that like straight people use gentleman. I understand what you mean. I like to treat my ladies with respect, change their car's oil, carry the bags, pull out the chair, open doors, all the little things, etc. I have a feeling that it goes back to our perception of straight males 'over ' women. It's probably why we have a hard time with femme/ butch roles. Don't let them bother you. Have fun. Enjoy your life.

I was a tomboy as a kid. I don't know that I would label myself as that now, even though I still have those qualities. Most of my spare time is still spent on one sports field or another. But to look at me, no one would ever think I was a lesbian. I think butch is look/way of being (think lumberjack/flannel shirts) and tomboy(ish) is more of an attitude (think liking actvities that are typically thought of as not ones for little girls, i.e. climbing trees, playing sports, GI Joes, etc). I know by that it might not seem like there's really a difference, but I don't know how to explain it!

tomboy - is supposedly boyish in nature. butch is a different story, it means that you've accepted that you're lesbian. and you say you enjoy being a "gentleman" to your girls then maybe you are more lesbian than bi. i said "you've accepted yourself" but not the society. truly, it is still not totally accepted, but if you're comfortable with what you do then just do it!

People get worked up over sexuality. When you were more tomboyish, then you were considered straight and no one cared. Now that you fit more into the butch stereotype, your sexuality becomes more obvious and people become less accepting. It's just the ignorance of society. You can be the same person, but as soon as your sexuality becomes more evident people start getting stupid.

the tomboy term is for 12yrs and under. Some people use Tomboy because they might be thinking you are lesbian but don't want to call u out. that's for u to do. So using Tomboy is just being nice or could be an in the window kind of thing.

A butch is someone who dresses in men's clothes, wear men cologne and have very manly ways. They like to be referred to as Hym, Hy, Sir any way a man is refered to.
A Tomboy is a girl/woman with manly ways but wears women's clothes, they are usually sensitive and show their emotions where Butches don't.
I know this because i idenitfy as a Tomboi. I am a Lesbian and i'm totally out and proud to family and friends. You have to learn to be comfortable in your skin and love yourself for who you are.

Tom Boy is straight or bi.
Butch is a lesbian who acts male but loves like a female. MMMMM
My mate is considered butch. I like that because I like getting a naughty girl spanking; plus, I can be feminine.
