I have tried using stain remover but it seems to make it worse, so I thought perhaps there was some natural remedy that might work

If they are white, try using the new Clorox Bleach Pen. The end that has the scrubbing bristles works like a charm on ring around the color and underarm stains. If they are colored, try mixing some Oxyclean in warm water and creating a foam. Scrub the foam in the stain with a tooth brush. Another homemade solution that works on all kinds of stains from carpet to upholstery to clothing is equal parts white vinegar, dawn dish detergent and ammonia. Work up into a lathery foam and apply the foam to the stain, scrub with a toothbrush and rinse clean.

If they are white shirts, Wet the stains and sprinke Oxiclean on the spots and let set 45 min to an hr, wash as you normally would.
If they are not white shirts let us know, so I can help you more.

Good luck

Yep. Panty hose. Dry rub them on the white marks.

I have rubbed a paste of baking soda and water on them and it seems to do the trick.
