Definitely the Anne Frank house, even though it is depressing, it is important. Go early because it's always quite busy- after you can have a nice lunch by the canal, Tuesdays at 12noon you can hear the bells of the Westerkerk played for one hour.
Summer is great in Amsterdam, walking around to take in the sights of the city is something you must do- a canal boat ride may seem cheesy but it's a really good way to see the city.
Rent a bike, and ride around the Vondelpark, very fun in summer, and often free concerts.
Highly recommended to visit the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh if that's your thing-
For night time, the Mellkweg near Leidseplein is a great club, lots of options there.

Unless you're seriously into the 'coffee house' scene or the red light district, you'll be bored after three days, maybe even less. But definitely see the Anne Frank House.
Or myspace someone from there before you go so they can show you the cool spots.

There isn't that much to see in Amsterdam. It isn't very big but the Reichsmusuem is good. Go travel around Luxemburg and Belgium which are close.
