To Completely Wipe your Hard-drive clean use the following.
This will whip your harddrive to a factory fresh condition. There will be NO DATA or PROGRAMS left on it.
Recommended by the University of Harvard Computer Science Division.
"Darik's Boot and Nuke (CDR/CDRW Version) - [2006-03-19 | Freeware | 1.9 Mb | DOS | 7914 | 4.87 ]
Securely wipes the hard disks of most computers."

USE EXTREME CAUTION and label this disk! Only insert in a PC you want to wipe clean of ALL DATA!
NOTE:
Most Hard-drives are shielded from external magnetism so unless you crack open the case and rub an extremely powerful magnet on the disk, that wont do any good. Floppy disks are unshielded and you can erase them with a magnet, but not a shielded Hard-drive.
Re-Formatting your Hard-drive will NOT erase any information. it only clears the FAT File Allocation Table, it does not erase ANY files as most people think.
Give me a hard-drive that has just been formatted and I can get EVERYTHING off it and copy to a NEW drive with NO PROBLEM at all.

there is a third party program out in computer store called ghost this program one of the features it does is wipes out the hard drive all together even the police or anyone could not recover any information on the hard drive but if you wiped it out already I could recover everything off of that drive! just that you did that does not mean that it is all gone it just writes it in a different location on tracks 0 and 1 on the hard drive that you never see and ghost rewites this over with 1 and 0's useless information just like a new hard drive

um... u jus wanna erase the internet stuff?! what about other stuff on ur pc?
if its jus' the internet stuff.. and u use MS Internet Explorer.. go to IE.. in Tools>Internet Option::: click on Delete Cookies, Delete Files (also check on Offline Files), and click on Delete History...
to be on the safe side, use a permanat deletion software to do the job by erasing permanatly the folders within
C:\Documents and Settings\YourProfileName\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.ie5
if u wanna erase all other stuff on ur hard drive use the Format command or use some permanatly erasing software...

you can format the hard pc hard disk.by right click on hard disk icon in my computer & select format, or if you want only to delete you personal things saved , you can delete the My Documents folder. These apply if a Windows 95 or a more recent version like Win XP.installed on your computer.
Versions of Linux also have a Documents folder were you usually store your personal files and can also be formatted.
