definitely timescape, with jeff daniels..
he played a widower and his daughter who moved to a town where they notice some odd characters who are looking around.
They discover that they are from the future and are visiting places where disasters occured. it turns out that this town is about to be hit by a meteor. when it hits, daniels daughter gets killed and he uses one of the future devices to travel back and change events.

low budget movie - a soppy but predictable ending.
Had the actor who played 'doug' from time tunnel in it.
