So, my boyfriend is 17 years old, and owns 2 books, both of which are wrestling-focused (one is the autobiography of a deceased wrestler, Eddie Guerero, and ther other is some kind of picture book =oS) I'm really into reading, and he's open to suggestions of books he might enjoy. I'm thinking he doesn't want heavy reads, but since he's 17, I guess anything sexual, violent or funny should grab his attention. Does anyone have any suggestions of books he might like? In TV programming he favours comedy, but I don't want to end up buying him a girly book.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

penthouse letters, believe me, he'll be paying a lot of attention to you afterward... maybe toward some others who look gamey, too.

Try King Fortis the Brave - there's nothing sexual in it but there is a lot of action and humor.

More importantly, it is an easy read. Some of the other suggestions I saw above, like Catch 22, Blackhawk Down and the Steven King books are all great, but they are wordy and may be too much for him if he's a non-reader.

You want to start him off with something that isn't going to overwhelm him - something that he can read with ease and give him a sense of accomplishment. Then you can work him up to books like Catch 22.

I've introduced King Fortis the some of my students that didn't like to read, and it has helped inspire them to go on to other books when they have finished it.

John Irving's novels wold be good for him. John Irving is himself a wrestler. Some of his novels are "The World According to Garp", which became a very good film, "Cider House Rules", also turned into cinema; "A Prayer for Owen Meany"; "The Hotel New Hampshire". Also, "Setting Free the Bears" and "The 158-Pound Marriage".

Harry Potter's books can be fun, too. My nephew loved The Lord of the Rings.

Military style stuff would be good here's a few I suggest:
Black Hawk Down
Marine Sniper
Goodbye Darkness
Band of Brothers
Books by Stephen King and Dean Koontz might be good reads also!

Try something by Scott Wiseman - he writes funny, tough books with male protagonists.

If he wants funny SF/F try Neil Gaiman (you can even start him off on the Sandman Graphic novels - so cool, and fast reads.

Stephen King if he likes horror.

Try to find the "Repairman Jack" series. Strong, tough, good read.

Get him started with collections of short stories.I agree that Stephen Kings books would probably interest him. Also try Kafka. My kids love Edgar Allen Poe.A public librarian would be more than happy to help him find books that he might enjoy. My fav is Shirley Jackson.

My husband is into Steven King books, and has been since his teens. I like Dean Koontz books and he got me into those. You can try those. I know for a fact that Steven King has some movies out there that your boyfriend might like, so maybe he will enjoy some of those. Hope this helps. :)
