Two words: Double Standard.
Rather than just realizing that people wear what they wear, we're busy determining what standards a man must live up to, while patronizingly condescending to women who are expected to dress according to the same general set of standards.

Society has come a long way from the old days of rampant sexual inequality, but we still have a LONG way to go as well. The idea that a man in a dress is a "transvestite" is still viewed as offensive in many visceral ways, because male authority and male superiority are still very profound symbols in this culture. It is for this reason that a man in "effeminate" clothing will be ridiculed a bit more than a woman in "masculine" clothing. The man in the dress is "betraying his superiority," trading it in for something of lesser value and "flaunting it in the face of upstanding people" while a woman dressed in a suit or other "masculine" clothing is simply imitating the male superiority around her, and flatteringly acknowledging this "superiority" by "wanting" a bit of it for herself.. Women in business wear, or even somewhat masculine sportswear are--as I have seen it time and time again--often looked on as children playing grown-up, while transvestite men are simply looked on as "misguided" and guilty of something akin to "gender treachery." So a woman in a business suit is a "business person" in much the same way that a child in his/her mother's/father's clothing is a "pretend grown up."

There are, of course people who utterly disagree with this, and rightly so, but they're also NOT the ones perpetuating this unspoken code.

great question. It's probably easier for people to deal with a woman 'fitting in' with the men in the office by wearing a very tailored suit. I don't think the US will ever accept men in any kind of 'feminine' attire because American men are brainwashed to be macho.

I certainly have a dream guy in my strategies, which isn't solid because of fact fantasies for the alternative intercourse under no circumstances come genuine. human beings are real, fantasies are no longer.

Because in the straight world it is okay for a girl to want to be a guy. They just call her a tomboy.

Also Madonna has a song that so goes with this question.
It's called "What it feels like for a girl"

Excellent point. It has always been more socially acceptable for women to wear clothing fashioned after men's clothing, than it is for men to wear clothing fashioned after women's clothing. I think men in dresses, or skirts, or kilts are hot. You can blame the feminists for that one.
