Those that say Nascar is not a sport, lets see you sit in a car, at 100 degrees and up, driving 185 mph in heavy traffic and make a turn at the same speed and not wreck. And lets see them try to get through a wreck and not get hit going at 185mph. Drivers must have be able to make an adjustment on the track in a blink of an eye, let see the normal person do that. Nascar is a way of life.
My hubby and I drag race and it takes a lot of skill to do that right, so I would hate to try and be a Nascar driver for a day.
Anyone can play football, basketball, soccer, and any other sports and they don't have to be good at it, but Nascar you have to be the best of the best, not everyone can drive under the conditions they do.

Yes NASCAR is a serious sport. It takes someone in good physical condition to drive a car at 180mph around a track and pulling 3 to 6 G's in the corners. It is a team sport. The Crew chief is like a head coach on a baseball or football team. With input from the driver he sets up the car for the race and calls most of the shots during the race. The pit crew are worth their weight in gold. A good pit crew can get their driver out of the pits in under 14 seconds. Thats changing four tires, filling up the gas tank, cleaning the grill and windsheild of the car. The driver, well he has the hardest job.Getting the most out of his car without wrecking it or another driver and passing 42 of the best drivers and fastest cars in the world on some of the toughest tracks in the world. In closing I would say this.NASCAR is as much a sport as Golf,Tennis, Figure Skating, or Competetive Surfing,or for that matter Skate Baording, they all look easy to do until you try it yourself and learn just how hard each of them all are.

Not all people who like Nascar are stupid as you must think. Yes it is a sport. Try driving at 180 mph+ with 42 other cars on the track and see if you can handle it. The drivers have to be in great shape to endure 500 miles. You have to have strategy as with any other sport to win a race.

It depends on a person's definition of "sport". To me, a sport is any event where a group of individuals or teams compete to determine who is the best.
Yes. NASCAR is a sport. The level of competition is very high from the first day the teams show up at the track to the celebration in Victory Lane. During qualifying, times are measured to the one thousandth of a second to determine starting positions. During the race, duration of pit stops are measured in tenths of a second so that teams can get their driver back on the track quicker. There are usually more teams entered than there is room for on the starting grid therefore, some teams are eliminated before the race even starts.

Don't you watch tv? NASCAR is a way of life! How many people do you see wearing Tiger Woods shirts? NONE! Now tell me how many NASCAR shirts you see. About 1 out of every 5, correct? They have the biggest fan base of any sport. If it wasn't a sport, they would't have fans, right?

YES! Well, the drivers have to drive a car 180+ mph. every weekend with 42 other cars. Hm, that sounds pretty difficult to me. If you don't think it's a sport & you think that's it's easy why don't you try it?? I bet that would change your tune. I just find it interesting that people keep asking dumb questions like this. It REALLY starts to get annoying after awhile! Oh yeah, I DO know how to spell, thank you very much!

Yes, it is a motorSPORT!
Sport:
That which diverts, and makes mirth; pastime; amusement.
Nascar diverts many fans interest everytime it is on! In the mind of any Nascar fan it definately is amusement, or we wouldn't be watching it! Nascar is also a pastime!
Although people who dislike Nascar may not see it as 'amusement', they can't really argue the other two!

For your information, it is. For one thing, the pit crew works out every day in order to stay in shape to do the pit stops in less than fifteen seconds. That is a race in itself. Plus, the drivers tolerate 140 degree temperatures for over 4 hours while keeping control of a car (with their arm muscles) for that length of time which is over 3500 pounds. This takes skill when you are running 185+ miles an hour in bumper to bumper traffic.
Perhaps, our drivers do not train like regular athletes but they do however, have to get ready for the race by eating carbs the day before and staying hydrated.

They say it's a sport, but I don't think it is. Sports require skills. Where is the skill in driving around in circles 500 times?
