The Gibson Les Paul is their trademark guitar and is considered (along with the Fender Stratocaster) one of the 2 best guitars. The ES 335 was made popular by Larry Carlton. It wasn't nearly as popular as the Les Paul. The Country Gentleman was designed by Chet Alkins and wasn't very popular. It was probably used a lot in country but the Fender Telecaster is the number 1 country guitar.

Over the decades Gibson have had so many great guitar models in their catalogue; it’s really difficult to choose which is best. It's really down to personal preference. One of my favourite is the three pickup, Gibson Switchmaster Jazz guitar with the Florentine cutaway. Don’t’ forget that Gibson made some fantastic acoustic guitars, the Hummingbird and the J55 being amongst my favourites.

SG's are good. I've yet to hear from anyone who did not like their Gibson guitar.
Along with Fender, it has a good reputation.
