Does anyone know or ever wonder why us guys have a dark band around our penis and then the skin gets lighter as it goes to the head?? I was just curious if it had any purpose.

That would be the circumcision scar from years ago. Not all circumcised guys have a scar, but they do have that color difference. If you're uncircumcised you wouldn't have a scar and thus no band.

Are you circumcised? If the answer is yes, then the dark band is just a scar from your circumcision long ago.

Most western countries have a policy whether they want their sons to be circumcised at birth, but in the East, parents circumcise their sons when they reach puberty, i.e. between age 9-12.

It's nothing to worry about and it's normal. However if you're not circumcised, you may need to check your local doctor and ask.
