Cats and dogs get along perfectly and equally both at home and in my heart. They have such different qualities that most of the characteristics that makes one human are faithfuly reflected by the combo. I think dogs and cats complement each other wonderfully as pets.
As for dog breeds: My family has always had dobermans; the last one was Jana, described as a poodle disguised as a dobe; never attacked anybody and all her "aggresive instincts" went to pests like rats and mice, of which she killed countless, but other than that she loved everyone and everything. Her recent death was regretted by all friends who knew her.
Cats: Siameses are the ones I like better of what I have known; they have strong personalities and they talk a lot! it is impossible to get bored with one and they are extremely intelligent and loving.
As of now I have no pets, but in the near future I look forward to remedy this and try out new breeds; a Great Dane dog and a Devon Rex cat.

I have both :P...A German Shepherd and a European breed cat. The dog is 5 yrs old and the cat is 11. They are my best friends and a wonderful company :)

uhhhhhhhh do I have to choose 1 of the two, cuz I really prefer snakes, my red tailed boa to be exact =) he's so sweet. but if I had to choose between a cat and a dog I would choose dog, even though I like cats also and own 1, I'd like to have a dog

I like dogs. Dogs are more loyal and friendly and cats are independent. I like most breeds except the toy dogs (e.g. Chihuahua, Pomeranian, etc.) and pit bulls.
I like Labrador retrievers, Golden retrievers, doberman pinschers, poodles...

omg.....i love my chihuahua. but i also like my friend's little kitty but i don't like her big cat though...small dogs are so cute and they like to follow you around. play with you, sleep with you. it is so much fun having a dog than a cat. i'd perfer a dog any time over a cat, but if i do ever own a cat i wouldn't trade it for anything else.

Ihave a dash hound and a labrador i only use my labrador for guarding and i use my dash hound for playing and doing tricks when my labrador barks at people trying to get in i will come down and see if the labrador is barking at a robber and i will reward him a treat if there is a robber and my dash hound is playful and i will reward him a treat when he accomplished tricks. i like dogs best because they are very useful,playful and lovable cats are very lazy and less useful . No ofense Cat lovers it is just the way i think of cats we have diff. things to think cat lovers think that cats is a pet for them and dog lovers think that dogs is a pet for them . whatever pet you like the best . Cats and Dogs are just equal.
