I'm obese, & I'm graduating from college in 4 days, and many people tell me that I won't get hired because I'm overweight. Is this true, or is this discrimination? Thanks.

The problem with that situation is that you can never prove that it is discrimination. All they have to do is not call you back.... we never know why. Personally, when I was very overweight I had problems getting jobs... but after the weight loss surgery it wasnt so hard. Could be coincidence, but I highly doubt it. Im not going to say that overweight people never get jobs.... because obviously thats not true.... but with the judgmental, discriminatory society we live in today....we are bound to run into some of those people throughout the duration of our career. Best of Luck and Congrats !

No, it's absolutely not true, especially because nowadays a lot of bosses and employers are obese as well. There are certain jobs that can have a weight requirement, like an airline stewardess, etc. But for a regular job, you can't discriminate based on a health reason. If you are able to perform a job, then you should get the job, all other things being equal.

While it's totally illegal to discriminate against an applicant simply because he or she is obese, it does happen. Why? interviewers are human and have their own set of beliefs and prejudices, which sometimes creep up into the interviewing process. And unfortunately, many people are "disgusted" and turned off by those who are truly obese (very fat).

And I've even seen studies that have documented that obese people are treated worse in the workforce and have a harder time gaining employment.

Will you get hired? YES because not every interviewer takes this attitude, but it wouldn't suprise me if you did experience this negative impression first hand by some.

If employers cant refuse to hire someone cause they are gay, then they probably cant refuse to hire someone that is obese either... your friends are probably jealous that your gonna be making some money!

i don't think of that it quite is a case which you isn't employed in case you have a MySpace account; extremely, i think of skill employers are going there to make certain in case you have shared something on your internet site that would desire to be questionable. Having a private account, to me, does not be a pink flag - i think of it quite is what you post which would be examine that should be suited.
