i'm from mississippi and all my life when we would go fishing, we would be riding down the river in our boat and at every log jam, we would see all this foam like stuff. my dad started told me it was "snake spit" what is that stuff really? and has anyone else ever heard it called that?

it is just the foam from water turbulance... between the water turbulance and the contaminates (man made and natural) mix... a foam occurs much like when you whip up hot chocolat reall good with a spoon... a little foam appears... it collects near the logs etc cause of the slower moving currents.... then the surface tension of the bubbles allow it to bond together....
either that or due to the decaying logs more contaminates there.

It is not snake spit It is called snake pits Snake pits were a historical European means of imposing capital punishment. Convicts were cast into a deep pit containing venomous snakes, such as vipers. They died from snake venom poisoning as the irritated snakes attacked them.

I don't know what that stuff is, but when i was a kid, my father told us that soy sauce was pigeon blood!-----i think your dad is as they say---"pulling your leg"------ :-)
