Just because I don't want to die of cancer and smell like **** doesn't make me uptight.

CONGRATULATIONS : )
Good job. It's great to hear you quit smoking. I hope this will be the last time you'll have to quit. Make sure you have people to support you.
Regarding non-smokers being uptight, perhaps it's just former smokers that are uptight. What would a person who never smoked have to be uptight about?
The reason smokers may seem so down to earth is because nicotine (a very addictive and fairly powerful drug) has a calming and relaxing effect on them. Find a smoker who hasn't had a cigarette in a few hours and see what they're like.

Maybe some of them, but most likely because they just want to keep their health as long as possible.
The most important thing is that you've stopped and everything past that really shouldn't matter. Don't try to figure it out. It's not worth the time and effort. Just do what you can to better your health.
Personally I'm an ex-smoker and at the end of August it will be for 15 years and I smoked for 24 years. So it's not impossible to stop. Extremely difficult, yes, but it's doable.
By the way, nicotine is a stimulant and agreed very addictive. It raises the blood pressure and pulse. Also your respiration rate rises. If you've seen a smoker looking kind of laid back and mellow it's most likely been several hours since their last cig.

I have never smoked in my life, but I married my husband who is a smoker and my dad smoked. I've actually been more easy going than they have. It seems that whenever they get stressed or the slightest agitated, they have to have a smoke. But I've noticed that I do get uptight when smokers dont have the courtesy to at least go outside... or to smoke away from the door so I dont get a big whiff of it while I'm walking in or out. So I guess in a way we all have our pet peeves regardless of whether your a smoker or not. Even if you figure it all out or not, just be proud that you quit.

The result of smoking is dirty lungs and cancer. Smokers are drug addicts, who get high off the nicotine, what is wonderful about addiction to a chemical? Your lungs want clean air, not smoke. A person should enjoy themselves by loving each other, not by inhaling dirty smoke into their bodies. It is good that you quit smoking, I applaud you for it. In the future you must get regular check ups on a regular basis, to make sure you do not develop lung cancer later in life, because the threat is always there. Again, good work with not smoking, because chemical happiness is not real, it is a false illusion.

I get uptight everytime I have to fork out $7.50 for a pack of smokes. This is at least 7 times a week. Not healthy. Be glad you quit.

Hmm... you sound pretty uptight about what other people think. To me, it seems kind of strange, maybe myopic, to dump people into the uptight bin or not based on smoking alone. Relax, enjoy and let others do and be as they choose.

What does smoking have to do with your personality? I know tons of people that don't smoke and they're ok. Not uptight at all...

I get uptight about people smoking round me but I can tolerate it to a degree.
I feel the same way about rude people with their cell phones too.

No, wanting to keep your health doesn't make you uptight. Why would you want to inhale a bunch of toxins into your lungs? What makes that so cool?
Good luck on your non-smoking.

Some are and some aren't. I used to be a hostess at a restaraunt years ago and there are people (nonsmokers) who are absolutely obnoxious about it. Some don't like it for good reason....like people who are on oxygen or are allergic.
