I would like to know what are the external reasons why Motorola lost its leading position and how they could overcome that? They have the technology but still not able to be in the top.

i worked for motorola between 1988 and 1997 and the biggest problem i saw was bad upper management decisions and instead of saying "ok we screwed up so lets change it" they kept trying to make bad decisions work out. motorola is a good company over all but it needs a good house cleaning

Similar problems as GM and others. They tried to be an American company rather than be a global company (one that sells worldwide and manufactures worldwide). A number of years ago they build a new manufacturing plant in Illinois for cell phones...expensive cellphones next to the ones that were made offshore. They made their political statement, then had to close the plant a few years later because they couldn;t compete. Sorry boys and girls, but that is life in today's world, especially when you compete against Nokia and LG with their flashy products. Motorola has a neat portfolio of phones now, I hope they don;t fail on executing. If you need to shell out $200 for a RAZR and Nokia comes up with better and cheaper, then there is a problem.

motorola's share in the market is decreasing just for its un-user friendly softwares in the mobile.the people r are so much addicted to NOKIA for the simple reason that u can download or save any sort of things and play it or save it.and one of the major reasons is the lack of service points.i think u must increae that and start a new campaign that'll surely halp because the recent slim adds of motorola with junior bachchan is fabulous.Best of Luck
