Its a new band, which makes it absolute garbage.

They are definitely not emo. Sorry guys. Man, the word emo's been used so much it's lost its meaning. Fifteen years ago when they started, they were hardcore punk (Shut your mouth and open your eyes, Answer that and stay fashionable). During their Very proud of ya album era, they were definitely hardcore.
But when jade entered the band on Black Sails In The Sunset, they became darker, especially with the lyrics. During the Art Of Drowning album era, they were a mix of goth punk band.
During the Sing The Sorrow era, They got more melodic but still had that Adam's Family feel.
Now, with December Underground, they're kinda just taking off and continuing where they left off from Sing The Sorrow.
To wrap this up, AFI are a hardcore-goth punk band.
Oh and with AFI being EMO, Where the hell did you get that from? Look at their lyrics. I don't see them writing about breaking up with girls or anything like that.

most ppl i think would call them emo, but i think that any band being called emo degrades them in a way. so if anyone asks me i tell them its alternative rock.
but i dont think the type of music it is really matters as long as you like it(witch i do :P)

omg it's not a new band. they used to be punk, and not too bad. now i would say they are emo.
