Well, it's normal for a period to last from 3-7 days. However, if your period goes beyond a week, contact your doctor. He/She will have better information about you and are better prepared to answer your questions.

Before you go to a gynaecologist, avoid all cold foods as this will coagulate the blood in your uterus. It could be that you have been on 'cold diets' since younger days. If blood continues to clot in big lumps, cysts may form surrounding your uterus. That's bad. In Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM, women are not encouraged to take cooling or cold foods as this will affect our wombs. Heat, however, warms that area and enables smooth menustration and regular periods.

It's probably nothing. It may be clots from your uterine lining. I get those too. Three questions will tell you if it's something major (if you answer yes to questions one and three, you need to go see a doctor about it.)
1. Are you sexually active?
2. Are you on the pill?
3. Is it accompanied by bad cramps?

If you answered yes to one and three, you need to go see a doctor about number two.
