Tattos can hurt depending on your pain tolerance level...

First...do you really want a tatto that will be with you for the rest of your life?
Will it be in a spot that is ALWAYS visible?
Think of your future career to see if placement will interfer with holding a wanted job?...employers sometimes will require you to keep it covered or not hire you....
Is it a fad item or a boyfreind name or symbol which yoou will hate in the future..........??
Think it through...I don't have any but know many who now wish they did not do it as they got older.....THINK before you ACT!!!!!

First of all, it depends on where the tattoo will be. Places like your back, shoulders, upper arms have a low ratio of nerve endings/square inch, so they hurt less. Face, hands/wrists, hips, and anywhere where the skin is close to the bone have higher ratios of nerve endings/square inch, so they hurt more.

Your artist will almost certainly do an outline and then fill it in. This is good, because the pain of the initial outline causes your body to release endorphins, which numb the rest of the procedure slightly. However, if the artist goes over some places a few times, it will probably hurt quite a bit.

My experience has been that the first 30 seconds are extremely unpleasant, but after that it's not so bad. The tattoo machine does stab a needle into your flesh dozens of times per second, and you really do feel it. But contrary to what many people think, the pain of getting a tattoo isn't all that bad in the end. I know I'd get more tattoos before I got anymore piercings.

Additionally, for the first three days to a week after the procedure your skin is very sensitive. Make sure you don't bump, scrape, or otherwise traumatize it.

Good luck! Just remember that tattoos ARE PERMANENT, and unless you want to have many painful and expensive procedures in a few years, you better make damn sure that this is something you want on your body for the rest of your life.

The question has been posed time and time again, and I never seem to read a satisfying answer - How much does getting a tattoo hurt? Professional tattooists and long-time collectors sometimes tend to forget what it was like to be on the other side of the chair for the first time. Although there is no way for me to tell each individual what it will feel like for them, I will do my best to offer some encouragement.

It's true that everyone has a different threshold of pain. What one person considers not painful at all could be devastating to another. Some people describe the feeling as a "hot scratch". Some have said it was "annoying". Most say it was not nearly as bad as they feared. But there is a little more than pain alone to consider when getting a tattoo.

You may have heard horror stories about people passing out or crying from the intense pain.
First of all, people pass out because their blood sugar drops from not eating or they just allow themselves to get too worked up and their own fear knocks them out. Pain is usually not the culprit when someone faints during a tattoo. As far as crying goes, there are some that find the pain too much to bear. These people are few and far between - don't assume you're going to be one of them. I shed a couple tears myself once - after an eight-hour session that was pure torture during the last two from all the stress on my body. More than likely, you are not going to be sitting down to an 8 hour tattooing session! So don't give in to the horror stories - we moms love to share labor and birth horror stories, but that doesn't stop girls from having babies!

Hope this helps, good luck to you!

It hurts! It is a needle going into your skin repeatedley depositing ink. However, it is not the worst pain in the world, and pain varies with where you get it at. Maybe for your first one, get it on your shoulderblade, which is where I have heard the least complaints about pain. Good Luck!

There are needles involved and the artist uses 2 types of needles, Outline needles (my opinion that hurts the most, but the section of the body will go numb after 5 minutes) and Filler needles (your body will be numb before the artist will get the filler needles out) there will be bleeding involved. It feels like really intense rug burn, that has needles. Good luck ^__^

It really depends on where you get it. On the back shoulder, it
hurts like a mother F****. MAN. On fleshy part, it's not as
harsh. But yeah they can be pretty painful. Don't be a baby....
and don't cry !!! ( jokin) ha ha

I have 3... it doesn't hurt that bad.

I would call it uncomfortable more than painful.

You can do it, just make sure you get something you really like.

Make sure you have a good artist too... that is a big deal.

Depends where you are having the tattoo.
They can hurt like hell and in a different area it is not so bad.
