Think of implies a specific bit of informaiton or data. Think about implies critical thinking skills to come to a conclusion of a specific idea or concept

Both can be used in similar scircumstances, but I personally reckon that "think of" implies creativity that "think about" does not include. If you say, for example, the subject is "sorting algorithms", I can "think of" such algorithms as a pattern, and create one on that basis. If instad I "think about" such algorithms I note the attributes of existing algorithms rather than their patterns. From "thinking about" a subject I can review existing "solutions" and select the most appropriate for my circumstances. From "thinking of" a subject I can note teh requirements, and how the whole subject relates to my particular focus.

Thinking about something implies preconceptions of the thing that are unchanging, thinking of something is the idea of forming those conceptions as part of the process!

Think about a lot of issues. think of giving up. About is an adverb
while of is a preposition. Think of is centering on or directed toward. Think about is approximately, or nearly Guess think of is more definitive.

"Think of" refers to a specific subject while " think about" refers to a generalized topic.
