The first step toward beautiful makeup application is clean, well-hydrated skin. Here are a few tips to make sure your skin looks its best before you start:
First, put eye cream under eyes to prepare skin for application of concealer.
Follow with a moisturizer to hydrate skin - for a smooth, flawless makeup application.
After applying eye cream, follow with concealer. go all the way up to lashline, and don’t forget the innermost corners of eyes where shadows are the deepest. Set with powder for long-lasting wear.
For extra dark circles, start with a Corrector shade. Pat lightly under eyes and then follow with a yellow-based shade of creamy concealer.
After concealer, apply your foundation in the formula that’s suited to your skin’s needs. For a flawless finish, set with a light dusting of Face Powder or Sheer Finish Loose Powder.
Now you're ready for blush. I love pink. there's something about the color pink that's instantly flattering. A pop of pinky blush warms up your face and makes you look happy and healthy. Dust on the apples of cheeks with a blush brush. Sweep on up towards hairline, then downwards to blend and soften color.
If you want to add a subtle glow to cheeks, sweep Shimmer color on cheekbones.

For your eyes: try a chocolate look - can look natural and sexy,
Start by defining brows using eye shadow (matched to your hair color) applied with an eye brow brush. Sweep bone eye Shadow from crease to browbone using eye shader brush. maybe try Bobby Brown Sandy Gold Long-Wear Cream Shadow, apply from lash line to crease.
Define eyes with eyeliner applied along upper lashine. finish with two coats of Black Mascara.

Lips - your best lipstick shade is one that looks great when you're wearing no makeup at all. This is a color that will always work for you.
Apply lip color using a lip brush for precise application. for natural-looking definition, line lips with lip liner after applying lipstick. Use the lip brush to soften and blend any harsh edges. for a high-shine finish, top with lip gloss.
Experiment with lip colors. Rich tones look especially pretty on full lips that are naturally dark-toned. Pale colors are lovely if natural lip tone is light.

I love using Bobbi Brown make-up and beauty products. and I learned a lot from her book "Beauty".

Good luck!
Ann

If you have nice skin, try to avoid using any foundation...stick to just eye liner, eye shadow, some blush and lip gloss.... you would look much better w/o the foundation.
Go to a make up counter and have them try some colors on you...see what you like the best and get some suggestions from the sales people.. Nordstrom has a lot of lines and their sales people are great.
MAC has some great colors as far as eye shadows... Lacome carries this lip gloss that is sold separately and in sets too and it's the greatest, it lasts for a long time and it's not as sticky as other ones are.

I use the bobbi brown blush, it's shimmer and it gives you a nice color on the cheeks.

Chanel has great eye liners that you don't need to reapply. and their eye shadows I have used for years and they are the best as far as lasting all day. Their colors are very classy too.

From what you say your face seems similar to mine. I prefer sheer light to medium coverage foundations. Loose powder always creates a more natural finish than pressed. It will gentely absorb shine if you have it but keep you natural looking and not overly matte, nor will it dry your skin. I like lancome's photogenic in translucent. Translucent powders seem frighteningly pale, even white, but go on colorless when applied lightly. Wearing makeup should never make you look fake, but should enhance beauty. Finding a good foundation can be very difficult. My suggestion is to go to different makeup counters and ask for the advice of a profesional. Going to the makeup counter rather than walmart or a drugstore can really pay off. They can help find the right type of founation for your skin type and help you choose an appropriate color. They will also set you up with a sample that will last several applications, if you ask for it. They usually don't just offer. Another benefit is they are very reasonable about returns if you discover the color is wrong or it causes you to shine by noon. Try different brands. They each train their reps differenty and have different approaches to skin care. I like MAC they make a nice line of colors and their reps are extreamly helpful.
You also say your skin is kinda tan. A powder bronzer applied after powder could bring that out more, just play on what you have. Blush will help bring out not only your cheeks but will bring out your hazel eyes. A dark macarra (black for a bold look brownish black for a subdued look) will also help your eyes stand out. Play with eyeshadows. I find most any colors can work with my skins but brown will be boring on you with your hair and eyes. Somehow it seems to be everyones idea of natural. My natural eyelid is mauve and mauve eyeshadows look natural and good on me. It may seem redundant to put the same color on top of its self but like I said it's more about enhanching.
Ultimately I feel you should talk to a variety of make up artists and get a general feel of what your skin concerns are before investing. Find products and make a routine and look you feel most comfortable with. Luck to ya.

actually to get a real trusted opinion, you should ask a prof at the makeup counters at the department stores. they are there for a reason. just choose what brand you want, then consult with one of the ladies. they'll help you sample it, so see if it looks good for you. just ask them the questions. they can really help a lot! and its free anyway. but really, ask them. they know a lot and they can really help you, especially if you have questions, and since they can see your face.

i recommend maybelline and clinique.

I like sally hansons spray foundation. Its very light, and you don't have to get very specific with an exact color match. It costs around $7 and you can get it at wal-greens or ulta.
