Hello, I'm an american wanting to study a second degree in law in britain...but I don't know which universities have the best pubs! Pubs are a crucial factor in any major life decision, and so I thought I'd ask for some assistance. Here are the unis I'm thinking about:
1. Bristol
2. Edinburgh
3. Glasgow
4. Exeter
5. Aberdeen
6. Kent
7. King's College (london)
Thanks for the help!

nah, i'm looking for the "stereotypical english" pub....you know? with the "quaint" village types who talk about how john mackenzie got his croft stolen out from under him by the "creditors", and the two old dudes playing checkers, who haven't left their bar stools since WWII. you know, the pub where a busload of 18 year old american girls come in to have a "cheeky" pint, and end up writhing on the floor indecently. which uni has those kinds of pubs?

lol, you are definately thinking along the right criteria my friend. Bristol is a beautiful city with an awesome nightlife, especially if you like drum and bass. A lot of great music comes from the Bristol area (Massive Attack, Portishead etc). The kids can be a bit snobby though - Oxbridge rejects (so maybe thats why the above poster's friends looks down on it a bit). Edinburgh obviously brilliant nightlife - big city with many unis and many drunken, promiscuous students. Glasgow too, so they get thumbs up (Glasgow being a bit more down to earth than Edinburgh, which has a pretentious side). Not sure about 4-6 I'm afraid, but I wouldn't recommend London.
I went to Sheffield and would naturally recommend that place. Very cheap, very studenty, awesome place to live. Leeds is also good, but a little bit more trendy, if you know what I mean, with lots of those shiny 'concept' bars I find a little stuck up. Sheffields got a growing number of those too. Sheffield's stong point is an awesome students union with 4 or 5 club nights a week. You should bear in mind the quality of the student union in which ever place you go for, as a lot of social life tends to revolve around it. One you haven't mentioned (maybe they dont do your course), is Newcastle: Britains official capital of casual se.x! My friends are always being offered threesomes on a night out in Newcastle. Its wild. Good luck making the right choice :)

Bristol is a student town, but my friend says it's a dive!
Edinburgh is beautiful and I'm sure the Scottish pubs are world class.
Glasgow has a rough reputation, but there's probably good pubs.
Exeter is in the middle of nowhere. Can't imagine a very lively pub there.
Aberdeen: ditto.
Kent, lovely place, not sure I would call it very "pubby".
King's College; adequate I suppose for pubs.
