First of all, that is a FALSE ASSUMPTION! I am a liberal and I am not gay. I have 3 children to prove it.
I've been liberal since I was 11 years old when I had my first run-in with the local Southern Baptist Church over folk dancing at our church youth group. The church of Christ said nothing. I guess none of their youth were there. I am not sure who was there, but I was definitely dancing that night.
In 1980 during the hostage crisis, I decided that I did not want to live under a government of the religious right be it Jewish, Islamic, or Christian (Moral Majority-type). Now the American Religious Right is exerting more and more influence in politics and naturally, the liberal, who believe in freedom for all, don't like it.
Many of my European ancestors had to leave their homelands because of political and/or religious persecutions. Guess who is not leaving America this time. I am staying right here and using all my constitutional rights, while I still have them, before the conservative take them away for my own good, so they would have me think.
If you want to know who is really gay, I suggest you look in a lot of your conservative closets too. It may surprise you to see who come out all "RED" faced.
